IELTS General Writing Task 1 with model answer

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic

You play a team sport with some friends. Last week a member of the team had an accident and wasn't able to play with you at the weekend. You decide to write him in the hospital, telling him about the match. 

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
- tell him which team won
- describe the conditions on the day
- say how you felt about the match

Write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:

Dear Roshni,

I am very sorry to hear that you had a major injury to your leg. I hope your surgery went well and you are doing good now.

Last week, we played the semi-final round against The Chennai Kings team. The match went well. We won the toss and chose to bat. The opponents showed their talent in bowling, by throwing yorkers and full swirls. Although they were very competitive in bowling, we could end up with a score of 500 for 12 wickets. Their batting commenced from the afternoon. Although we gave a good fight they ultimately reached a score of 501 within 46 overs. We lost the match and the victory was theirs.

The day was very good. Especially, the weather was warm and sunny. To be honest, I was hoping without hope that the match would get interrupted by a torrential rain just so we could avoid a loss, but it was not the case.

Although, we failed the match. I felt that we could learn a bunch of new techniques from our contenders. Furthermore, we had been practicing all these techniques throughout last week. I hope you recover soon. Get a great rest for the day.
