Model Answer:

The recent increase in crime rate among young people that is plaguing many countries is a major issue threatening the future of societies. Among the many factors contributing to the problem, the rise in unemployment among young people, as well as the demise of the nuclear family, are probably two of the main issues. These need to be tackled by modern society in order to guarantee a peaceful future.

Unemployment rates have been steadily increasing in a number of countries, and young adults are frequently the most affected age group. In addition, the rise in single-parent families, often struggling to make ends meet, has left many young people impoverished in terms of perspective. There is no good example to follow, no-one to look up to for guidance. The result is a generation of young adults who not only lack adequate job prospects but who also have been lacking mentorship when they were adolescents.

The solution to the problem lies in engaging the young people early on, for example through programs offered in community centres. Drawing them into fun activities not only keeps them off the streets but also provides mentors and inspiration. In addition, some of the activities could be skill-based, such as carpentry or welding courses, thus increasing the young peoples’ chances on the job market. Ultimately, such efforts need to be matched by job creation programs and funding in order to have long-lasting effects.

Adolescent crime is a crucial problem for the future of societies. It is of utmost importance to set young people on a good path early on, and community centres can play a significant role in achieving this goal. We must, therefore, invest in such structures and ensure their long-term funding.
